Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents cited a subject for alleged deer hunting violations on March 15 in Rapides Parish.

Agents cited Mason Maricle, 49, of Lecompte, for hunting deer during a closed season, hunting deer during illegal hours, hunting from a moving vehicle and hunting deer from a public road.

Agents received information from an anonymous source that they observed a subject hunting from his truck around 1:30 a.m. on March 15 from Blue Lake Road in Rapides Parish. On the morning of March 15, agents made contact with Maricle whose truck and license plate matched the description from the complainant.

During questioning, Maricle admitted to agents that he shot at a deer from his vehicle with his .22 caliber rifle at night on Blue Lake Road. Maricle said he missed the deer and agents could not find any evidence that he hit the shot.

Hunting deer during a closed season and hunting deer during illegal hours brings a $900 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense. Hunting from a moving vehicle carries a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail. Hunting deer from a public road brings up to a $350 fine.
