Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested two subjects for alleged illegal drug possession on Feb. 7 in Avoyelles Parish.
Agents arrested William J. Tanner, 50, of Evergreen, for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, illegal possession of anabolic steroids, possession of drug paraphernalia, hunting while under hunting license suspension, taking alligators during a closed season, and illegal possession of alligators, eggs or their skins.
Agents also arrested Jasmine D. Jolla, 30, of Baton Rouge, for possession of methamphetamines and drug paraphernalia.
Agents received a tip in January of 2025 about an individual that harvested alligators illegally. During the investigation, agents learned that Tanner harvested two alligators during a closed season in June of 2024.
On Feb. 7, agents made contact with Tanner with Jolla as his passenger in his truck. During the stop, agents observed drug paraphernalia inside the truck in plain sight.
Agents searched the truck and found suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, anabolic steroids, and tanned alligator skins. Agents also found Tanner in possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon brings a $1,000 to $5,000 fine and five to 20 years in jail. Illegal possession of an anabolic steroid carries up to a $5,000 fine and one to five years in jail. Possession of drug paraphernalia brings up to a $300 fine and 15 days in jail. Possession of methamphetamines carries up to a $5,000 fine and two years in jail.
Taking alligators during a closed season and illegal possession of alligators carries a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail for each offense. Hunting under hunting license suspension brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.
Tanner will also face civil restitution totaling $752 for the replacement value of the illegally taken alligators.
