The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) will send a survey to Harvest Information Program (HIP) registered Louisiana waterfowl hunters beginning Monday (March 17). Selected individuals will receive an email with a link directing them to the survey.

The information attained from the survey is used to inform managers and administrators on current waterfowl hunter activity and satisfaction, and on issues ranging from the demographic changes in the hunting community, structure of seasons, zones and splits, management of public lands and potential regulations changes.

Because this survey is only conducted every five years, LDWFs intent is for it to be comprehensive yet not overly burdensome. There are a total of 37 question of variable length and it may take 20 minutes to complete. The next opportunity for wide-scale public information collection on state waterfowl issues will occur in 2030.

A primary objective of the survey includes: Beginning in the 2026-2027 season, Louisiana will have the opportunity to either keep our existing zone and split configuration or opt for a new structure among a suite of allowable alternatives. The zone/split configuration LDWF chooses will be in effect through the 2029-2030 season. Information gleaned from this survey will be in integral part of that decision.

If you are a waterfowl hunter and do not receive an email with a link to the survey be sure to check your spam folder.
