Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries enforcement agents arrested a LaSalle Parish man for alleged deer hunting violations in LaSalle and Catahoula parishes during the 2018/19 deer season.

Agents arrested Clifton B. Sharp, 57, for taking over the season limit of deer, possession of illegally taken deer, failing to comply with deer tagging requirements, using another person’s deer tags and failing to validate deer tags.

On Sept. 11, LDWF agents received a tip that Sharp harvested over his season limit of deer.  After further investigation, agents obtained search warrants for Sharp’s property in both LaSalle and Catahoula parishes.

On Sept. 25, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service agents and LDWF agents served the warrants and interviewed Sharp at his residence where he admitted to killing 16 deer during the 2018/19 deer season in Cameron and LaSalle Parish.  Sharp also admitted to using tags belonging to others.

LDWF agents booked Sharp into the LaSalle Parish Jail on Oct. 24.

Taking over the seasonal limit of deer brings a $250 to $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail for each offense.  Possession of illegally taken deer brings a $400 to $950 fine and up to 120 days in jail.  Failing to comply with deer tagging requirements, using another person’s deer tags and failing to validate deer tags each brings a $100 to $350 fine and up to 60 days in jail for each offense.

Sharp may also face civil restitution totaling $16,246 for the replacement value of the illegally taken deer.
