Description
A free-floating fern that consists of three leaves covered with hairs that repel water and look like tiny egg beaters. Despite its name, it is actually small, only giant when compared to common salvinia. Does not flower.
Habitat and Range
Originally from Brazil. Lives in warm freshwater areas across Louisiana.
Behavior
Can blanket a waterway’s surface, inhibiting access and shading out native vegetation. Easily spread from one body of water to another because it tends to cling to objects such as bird legs and boat trailers.
