Description
Medium, compact goose with dark-brown body, head, and neck. The belly is lighter in color, with black "bars" accumulating over time. Undertail coverts are conspicuously white, along with a V-shaped white patch above between the rump and back. The front face has a white patch and a yellow eye ring. The legs are orange. Bill is pinkish/orange.

Distinctive bark/laugh "kla-ha" or "kla-hah-luk"
Range and Habitat
Breeding in Alaska, northern Canada, Russia, Siberia, and Greenland. Found throughout North America during winter migration. Highly associated with marshes and agricultural landscapes during winter migration.
Behavior
Strong familial bonds remain past the first winter season. They are found on almost all habitats available in their wintering range from marsh, agricultural fields, fallow fields, tidal and estuarine systems, and fresh marsh. They can create large congregations on wintering grounds

Basic hunting license or equivalent combination license (Sportsman Paradise). Waterfowl, HIP certification (18 years old and older). Federal Duck Stamp (16 years old and older) signed across the face, if hunting WMA then WMA Access Permit.
