Green-winged teal

Description

Smallest of the dabbling ducks. Females drab, dark brown, gray/black bill. Males with gray flanks, tan chest and rump, black bill with rust-colored head with vibrant green eye streak extending to back of head.

Sound

Males perform a short, clear, stacatto whistle. Females have a decrescendo of quacks with some chattering.

Range and Habitat

 Breeds across Canada & Alaska, south to the prairie states. Winters throughout North America in southern and coastal regions.

Population Status

 Stable to increasing

Hunting License Information

 Basic hunting license or equivalent combination license (Sportsman Paradise). Waterfowl, HIP certification (18 years old and older). Federal Duck Stamp (16 years old and older) signed across the face, if hunting WMA then WMA Access Permit.
